What does depression feel like beyond low mood?

Depression often feels less like sadness and more like losing access to yourself. You may still work, answer messages and complete what is necessary, but interest, affection and initiative feel unavailable. The day is managed rather than lived.

People can carry this quietly for years. After enough cancelled plans and unfinished tasks, the private explanation becomes personal: I am lazy. I have changed. This is simply who I am now. That conclusion is one of depression's effects, not reliable evidence about your character.

Why does advice to get up and do things feel impossible?

Low motivation is often a symptom of depression, not its original cause. Advice to exercise, socialise or create a routine may be sensible, but it becomes another standard to fail when it ignores how little energy and reward the brain is producing.

Previous help can also stall when it treats activity as the whole treatment. Behaviour matters, but so do grief, burnout, migration, relationship loss, shame and the beliefs that turn every difficult day into proof of inadequacy.

How does online depression therapy work?

Online depression therapy begins with a careful assessment of mood, sleep, appetite, concentration, safety, medical factors, losses and the time course of the change. This clarifies whether low motivation is maintaining the depression, expressing it or both.

Early work often uses behavioural activation to rebuild contact with routine, movement, people and activities that can produce a small sense of reward. The tasks are deliberately modest and tested, not prescribed as moral duties. Cognitive work then examines the conclusions depression has made about your worth, future and responsibility.

For recurrent or long standing depression, we also work with the relational and developmental patterns beneath the episodes. Therapy can sit alongside medical treatment, and a doctor or psychiatrist should assess medication when that may be useful.

What does recovery from depression usually look like?

Change often appears first in function rather than happiness. Sleep becomes more regular, one task requires less negotiation, or contact with another person feels less costly. Interest and a recognisable sense of self may return later.

There is no honest universal timeframe. A depression linked to a recent event may respond differently from a recurrent pattern carried for years. We review changes directly and adjust the plan if the work is not moving.

How do I ask for help when I have no energy?

A brief message is enough. You do not need to make a persuasive case for why you are struggling. You can also book an initial assessment directly.

Online sessions are available in English and Arabic for clients living across Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, subject to applicable professional and legal requirements. Please tell me where you are living when you first write.

If you are thinking about ending your life or feel unable to keep yourself safe, use emergency or crisis support where you live now. Planned therapy can begin when immediate safety is in place.

Between sessions

Real therapy does not end when the call ends

A session lasts fifty minutes a week. But the hardest moments come when getting out of bed feels impossible, when the heaviness and isolation settle in, or when self blame grows loud and you have no energy even for small steps.

That is why you have your own private space between our sessions. It holds practical, guided tools chosen for your experience and opened with you one step at a time, so each week turns into clear steps that our next session can build on.

A pathway designed for you

Back to Life

A gentle, step-by-step path out of the fog of depression.

The focus areas, the tools and the order in which they open are decided together after we understand your situation, and they change as you change.

Support in the difficult moment

Clear practical exercises you can open on your phone the moment things build up, instead of trying to remember a theory.

Shaped around your pace

There is no ready made template. We choose and open the tools together based on what you are going through, without rushing or overload.

Progress you can see

Your own words and ratings over time, so we both notice what is really changing and adjust the plan with shared understanding.

A safe and closed space

Only your therapist sees what you write. No algorithms, no advertising trackers, no public profiles.

This pathway is part of therapy with me, not a self help app, and it is offered when it suits your situation.
