Why can trauma still feel present years later?

Trauma can leave the body responding as if danger is current even when you know the event is over. A sound, smell, expression or silence can bring the full physical alarm back before you understand what triggered it.

People often organise life around preventing that reaction. They avoid places, conversations, sleep, closeness or stillness. Over time the avoidance becomes so normal that they blame themselves for being difficult, detached or permanently damaged.

Will trauma therapy make me relive what happened?

Trauma therapy should not begin by making you recount everything in detail. Pacing, safety and control come first because approaching memory before there is enough stability can overwhelm the person and strengthen avoidance.

Many people delay therapy for years because they expect to be pushed into the worst moment. Previous work may also have stalled if it focused only on calming symptoms without addressing memory, meaning and avoidance, or if it approached the story faster than the nervous system could tolerate.

How does online trauma therapy actually proceed?

Online trauma therapy starts with assessment and stabilisation. We look at current safety, sleep, dissociation, triggers, emotional regulation, support and the ways you leave the present when distress rises.

Once there is enough footing, trauma focused work helps the memory become located in the past and reduces the avoidance that keeps it powerful. You retain control over what is discussed and when. A complete spoken account is not required before help can begin.

Single event trauma and complex trauma need different pacing. Culture, war, displacement, faith, family and the meaning attached to survival are treated as part of the clinical picture, not added after a standard protocol.

What can realistically change after trauma?

Early change may mean sleeping slightly longer, noticing a trigger before reacting or returning to the present more quickly after an intrusion. Later, memories can feel more like events that happened than events still happening.

Complex trauma usually requires longer work because it affects identity, emotional regulation and relationships as well as memory. The aim is not to erase the past. It is to reduce its authority over the present.

Can I ask about trauma therapy without telling the story?

Yes. A first conversation can focus on current effects, safety and whether online work is suitable. You do not have to disclose details before trust and a plan are in place.

Online sessions are available in English and Arabic for clients living across Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, subject to applicable professional and legal requirements. Please tell me where you are living when you first write.

Psychotherapy is planned care rather than emergency support. If you are in immediate danger or unable to keep yourself safe, contact your local emergency service or nearest emergency department.

Between sessions

Real therapy does not end when the call ends

A session lasts fifty minutes a week. But memories that break in without warning, the constant sense of alert and the feeling of being unsafe over small things appear in daily life, far from the session.

That is why you have your own private space between our sessions. It holds practical, guided tools chosen for your experience and opened with you one step at a time, so each week turns into clear steps that our next session can build on.

A pathway designed for you

Trauma Recovery

Safety first, then the memory loses its grip, then life opens again — at your pace.

The focus areas, the tools and the order in which they open are decided together after we understand your situation, and they change as you change.

Support in the difficult moment

Clear practical exercises you can open on your phone the moment things build up, instead of trying to remember a theory.

Shaped around your pace

There is no ready made template. We choose and open the tools together based on what you are going through, without rushing or overload.

Progress you can see

Your own words and ratings over time, so we both notice what is really changing and adjust the plan with shared understanding.

A safe and closed space

Only your therapist sees what you write. No algorithms, no advertising trackers, no public profiles.

Start with an initial session

This pathway is part of therapy with me, not a self help app, and it is offered when it suits your situation.

Book an initial assessment or write first. The first step is deciding whether the work can be done safely, not retelling the event.
